Florida Guide > Dining
Self catering doesn’t have to mean cooking!
When you start to plan your villa holiday one thing to remember is that although most Florida villas are a far cry from the caravans, chalets and tents most of us associate with the typical UK self catering holidays that is still essentially what you are booking. Some owners including ourselves do offer a daily maid service or a mid stay clean as an optional extra to our guests but as far as I’m aware it is not possible to book an all-inclusive villa holiday or even a bed and breakfast option. This doesn’t mean that mum or dad have to spend half their holiday stuck in the kitchen cooking.
Dining out in Florida is still reasonably priced when compared to dining out in the UK and eating all your meals in restaurants is an option but most people combine eating in and dining out to get the best from their villa experience. When it comes to dining out anyone staying on High Grove; the community we are most familiar with, will not be disappointed.
Most days when we are in Florida we tend to eat breakfast at the villa this usually consists of cereal, fruit, toast, bagels etc out by the pool but at least a couple of times while we are away we head out for breakfast. We usually head for Cracker Barrel, the Market Street Café in Celebration or if we have our family with us it’s usually Golden Corral.
We rarely eat out at lunchtime unless we are in the theme parks preferring to have a salad or sandwich out by the pool (are you noticing a trend here? lol). This doesn’t need to involve a lot of work as there is a varied selection of pre washed bagged salads along with a good choice of baked in store bread and rolls and excellent cooked meats available at Publix our favourite local supermarket. If we do eat out at lunchtime we tend to opt for a lighter meal of soup, sandwiches or salad. Olive Garden and Applebee’s both do a good soup and salad lunch option and Sweet Tomatoes has just about every salad ingredient available on offer at excellent prices.
We almost always eat out for dinner; well we are on holiday, as there is such a good selection of good value high quality restaurants close by. We love Red Lobster for sea food and Millers Ale House for the Monday night ribs special but there are literally hundreds of restaurants within minutes of the community to satisfy most tastes. If we do decide to stay in we usually have a BBQ or get a take away pizza, fried chicken or Chinese to …you’ve guessed it… eat out by the pool!
So as you can see self catering can still be a holiday for everyone and with a dishwasher in most villas no one has to worry about the washing up either.
