Santa Fe Restuarant
I have always been one of those people who have said, ‘I will try anything once but may not try it again. Far too many are prejudiced just because they have heard from someone that someone else did not like it.
We arrived in Florida last week to find a new restaurant had opened since our last visit and it was only just up the road from us, in fact within walking distance which makes it perfect if you want a drink or two. It is situated on highway 27, one mile north of the 192 and at the entrance of Woodcrest Way which leads down to Silver Creek.
It is called the ‘Santa Fe’ and is the first restaurant of the chain in Florida.
So with a couple of friends who came and kindly picked us up we decided to try it. Although the car park was fairly full we quickly found a space. Then again the restaurant appeared to be full but we were immediately shown to our table. The first thing that struck me was the floor as it was lightly covered in peanut shells. I quickly found out why, when we sat down at the table there was a large bowl of unshelled peanuts for us to eat. We decided to tuck in there and then, even before our waitress had appeared to take our drinks order. This was taken quickly and the drinks were on the table within a couple of minutes. I quickly got fed up cracking peanuts and decided to concentrate on the menu. There is a wide choice from salads to as one would expect the large sized steaks that the Americans are so fond of. Combo platters, ribs and seafood also are featured.
After much deliberations we decided on our choices, two of us chose the Coconut Shrimps with a marmalade sauce, one chose The Santa Fe Chicken and the fourth member of the party chose the 7oz steak marinated in Jack Daniels. Sides were chosen separately and the choice varied from jacket potatoes, sweet potatoes, fresh vegetables to charro beans or soup.
We waited about 15 minutes for our meal to arrive and when it did the two of us who had chosen the shrimps thought ‘wow’. My husband immediately said ‘I have done it again chosen the wrong thing’. However when his chicken arrived he decided he hadn’t. The only grip we had was that the sides didn’t arrive but when this was pointed out they very quickly were provided.
I have to say the shrimps were delicious and surprisingly the marmalade sauce was a perfect complement. I struggled to finish them but was not going to leave any and chose to leave some of my baked potato and veg. Everyone else enjoyed their choices so all in all the meal was very good.
The two of us who had chosen a soft drink were disappointed that we were not offered a top-up but when we go again will make sure that this is remedied.
There was of course a choice of very fattening sweets available but no-one had room. The decision that for $30 it was a very good value meal. An experience to be repeated.
