Santa Fe Restaurants
What can I say about the Santa Fe chain. Well, fine dining it aint! But. If you want perfect steaks cooked exactly as you want them, then you will never need to go any where else.
I am lucky enough to have a Santa Fe just a mile away from my villa. It is on H27 just by the junction of H192 and H27 at Four Corners. It is quite a pleasant walk on a warm evening or a very quick drive if I am feeling too lazy. Based on a typical cowboy style eating house, the tables are all bare wood and the floors are concrete and covered in peanut shells. All cowboy memorabilia and slogans are featured on the walls and they sell T shirts with the same slogans on them for you to buy as a souvenir of your visit. The reason for the peanut shells is that when they show you to your table, they present you with a bucket of roasted peanuts in their shells. They then tell you to throw the shells on the floor. (Beware those of you with a peanut allergy).
There is, as usual, a bar for you to have a drink first if you like and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and really friendly. The service is second to none and they can not do enough for you
My favourite steak on the menu is a 9oz Bubba’s sirloin, which to my mind is the greatest of all the steaks for flavour. It is a mere $10. 99 and all the items on the menu are very reasonably priced too.
As we all know, steaks in America are so much more tender than the ones sold in the UK. I have never tasted a better one or even a more tender one. It can be served with either, the usual sweet potato, baked potato or their own special steak fries. These are seasoned to perfection and absolutely delicious. They have all the other types of steaks, the New York strip, the fillet, the T bone and a very nice sirloin marinated in bourbon, but for my appetite the 9oz is plenty. For the heartier appetite they go right up to 18oz steaks.
They also do a very nice fajita selection, of these I think the chicken is best. There are burgers and ribs and a good selection of fish. Salmon served in a bourbon sauce is one their specialities and they do catfish two ways, breaded or marinated in mesquite.
All the dishes are served with the obligatory two sides of your choice of potato and salad, steamed vegetables, coleslaw or steamed broccoli.
If you like a glass of wine with your meal, I can highly recommend the Yellow Tail Merlot, for a very reasonable $5. 95 it is a very good wine.
The highlight of my dinner is the pudding. Try the apple wrap, but share it unless you have a huge appetite. It is 4 rolls of a type of filot pastry filled with apples and deep fried. They are served with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream and whipped cream, drizzled with caramel sauce and finished off with a sprinkling of cinnamon. Amazing!
So if you like the rustic, casual approach to dining you will love the Santa Fe.
