San Francisco - Universal
In the real world San Francisco and Amity are two separate areas located on opposite sides of USA. However in Universal Studios they are combined together in one large themed section, located between New York and World Expo. They are both on the Universal Lagoon.
The Lagoon is a good spot to take a break and enjoy the great view of the water or try your hand at the games of chance on the Amity Midway. There are plenty of games here with " guess your age, weight and birthday, " ring tossing, water balloon games and more.
However do not expect to get a Ghirardelli Ice Cream Sundae or spend any time looking for the door as the Ghirardelli Building is just part of the San Francisco theme!
You can visit Fear Factor Live and see if you have what it takes at the first-ever theme park experience based on a reality TV show. It’ s unscripted therefore unpredictable and unlike anything you’ ve ever seen. For a chance to compete in Fear Factor Live, casting for the attraction will take place 75 minutes prior to each show at the kiosk located in front of the stadium.
Do not miss Earthquake -The Big One where you see the secrets of Hollywood special effects. If you want to participate in the show, be sure to stand in the front group and near the speaker in first room of this attraction. First you will see clips of classic Universal Movies that features special effects such as Jurassic Park and Twister. Then you move on to the special effects part of the show that the audience participates in. And finally it’ s time for the payoff; experience an 8. 3 on the Richter scale earthquake while riding on the Bay Area Rapid Transit. You will find yourself in the middle of an earth-shattering scene from the movie " Earthquake, " with exploding gasoline tankers, ceilings collapsing and subway cars crashing. This ride is based on the 1974 classic movie, Earthquake. This attraction is not for nervous younger children.
We love Jaws. One of our girls used to be very scared of it when she was little but these days she can laugh with the rest of us during some of the ride. You will barely round the first corner of the waterway and you will know you are in for a bumpy and scary ride. Do not worry; your boat captain will take care of you and the shark with bad attitude. This ride may frighten those who are afraid of the dark, loud explosions and a big, big shark trying to attack the boat. This is a great ride to go on after dark!
At Beetlejuice’ s Graveyard Revue you can join the Universal Monsters as they unleash their hot sound in a spoooktacular rock’ n’ roll revue loud enough to wake the dead. Arrive 15 minutes prior to the show which lasts for approx 20 minutes.
If you are hungry while you are in San Francisco/Amity it has a very good selection of dining options. We love Lombard’ s Seafood Grille which is a great seafood restaurant.
However if you just want fudge, cookies or candies try the San Francisco Candy factory.
