Romano's Macaroni Grill
Romano’s Macaroni Grill is a nationwide chain of Italian food restaurants with several locations in Orlando. We visited the new one at Hunter’s Creek which is part of ‘The Loop’ shopping outlet. Other Orlando locations are Lake Buena Vista and Irlo Bronson Hwy in Kissimmee.
It is a great restaurant for classic Italian food but also with some interesting variations. You can also phone up 30 minutes ahead and order a complete meal to go! This is for just about everything on the menu and when you turn up you park in one of the special bays and they bring the food right out to you. If you are catering for a larger group you can order platters for 8-10 with everything from Bruschetta and salads to lasagna and pastas, and even desserts.
We ate at the Hunter’s Creek location on our way to the cinema. They checked our movie start time and made sure they served us in plenty of time.
First of all you will be served with some wonderful Tuscan bread and a bowl of olive oil for dipping. We also asked for and got balsamic vinegar. It was very tempting to have the second portion of bread offered but I don’t think we would have managed the main course after that.
Antipasta ranges from mozzarella fritta at $5.79 to Romano’s sampler at $9.99 which gives you a taste of starters. Caesar or garden salad costs $1.79 but there is a wonderful selection of different salads. If you are watching your carbs look out for the healthy eating options with a little fork logo. The steak and arugula salad has only 9 carbs and there are other options in the main courses such as salmon and chicken. Needless to say none of these logos appears in the pasta/pizza section!
The thin crust pizzas are handmade to order and were delicious. Pasta even comes as a choice of whole-wheat – I had the shrimp diavolo which was very tasty but as always a bit too big a portion for me.
If you don’t want to go for the pizza/pasta options then there is a good selection of other main courses with everything from balsamic chicken at $12 to the top of the range Boursin fillet at $21. Other options include pork chops, halibut and salmon, some with a choice of sauces or glazes.
If you have children in your group there is a menu including meat balls, pizza and chicken fingers. Kids meals cost $4.99 and include a drink then ice cream.
Finally if you have space the desserts range from chocolate or lemon cake to cheesecake – and what sounds very interesting to me – dessert ravioli. Can’t wait to try that one next time there! And of course they serve an excellent cappuccino!
