RIVERSHIP ROMANCE CRUISES
For something a little different , we tried a river cruise Sunday Brunch meal, plus great entertainment.
The rivership Romance cruises out of Sanford Harbor, over Lake Monroe and then along the St Johns river.
Florida’s St. Johns river flows from the wetlands to the South right up to Jacksonville and the Atlantic Ocean providing a home for Heron, Eagles, Osprey, Manatee and Alligators.
You can enjoy a relaxed, soothing ride on a luncheon or moonlight cruise on the great 200 seater rivership watching the river glide past in air conditioned decks or stroll the outer decks, take photos or dance In the lounge to the great entertainers who regularly play aboard the ship.
Arriving at Sanford harbour we were quickly ushered aboard and seated (after having previously booked by phone). We were immediately greeted by our host, MC (and vocalist! ) for the trip, Dave Johnson, who pointed out the facilities and a few safety instructions in a light hearted and smooth way. Then we were on our way at 11am promptly. After completing our entrée orders for lunch we were invited to partake of some light breakfast style starters from a buffet (with a friendly tip not to eat too much and spoil our appetites for the main meal which would be served at 12:30pm. Coffee, Hot or Iced Tea and soft drinks were complimentary and kept well topped up by the very attentive and obliging servers.
After this we had the freedom of the ship and could explore the three decks watching the river banks glide past and sliding under numerous bridges (including a very interesting rail bridge which seems to remain up until such time as a train is due when the engineer, who is in attendance all the time, lowers it into place thus restoring the straight track).
At 12:30 we made our way back to the dining deck and were served our requested entrees, this particular day we had a choice of Chicken and Biscuits in sauce (for those of us who haven’t experience “Biscuits” in the southern states they are very like scones in the UK! ) This was served with mashed potatoes and sweet corn…as were the other delicious entrees, consisting of Paradise Pork, Vegetable Pot Pie and Beef.
This was followed by a dessert of Chocolate Fudge Brownie.
By this time the ship had turned around in the wide St Johns River and was heading back to Lake Monroe again.
Again we headed for the upper decks where Dave Johnson was ably entertaining with a wide variety of songs for all tastes, playing guitar and working to excellent backing tracks.
We docked around 2pm after a very enjoyable and relaxing cruise. If you are looking for something a little different, the Romance river cruise is well worth considering. There is a 3 hour luncheon cruise on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, a 4 hour lunch cruise on Tuesday and Thursday, a Sunday Brunch trip and Moonlight Dinner and Dance Cruise on a Saturday.
The ship can also be booked for Speciality Cruises. (Call them for times, prices and themes)
The Sunday Brunch Cruise was $38 per person including the cruise, Brunch meals and coffees, teas and soft drinks included.
Cocktails and drinks can be supplied from a menu and are made up to order in the ships bar.
