Ride Guide – Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is one of the main attractions. It is a high speed inside coaster aimed at older children, teens and adults and launches from 0 to 60 mph in less than three seconds!
The holding area sets the scene for this ride, you are in a recording studio with Aerosmith when the manager tells them they have to get to their gig as they are late. Being a generous bunch, they tell their manager that you should also go to their concert with backstage passes and that he has to organise it, however, it is all the way across L. A. and the freeways are gridlocked as usual. What can the manager do? He can organise the most awesome super stretched limo!
Strapped into the seat of your limo, you are now in for the ride of your life. After you blast off, with the same acceleration as a supersonic jet fighter, you zoom past famous landmarks and scenes from Los Angeles and Hollywood, sometimes even upside down! This is the second fastest ride at Walt Disney World (beaten only by Test Track, in Epcot).
Did I mention upside down? I did indeed, this ride features three inversions, with a maximum G-Force of 4. 5g. This is a greater force than an astronaut will feel during a shuttle launch! There are two roll over inversions and one corkscrew (a personal favourite).
All the time that you are on your fantastic ride, you are moving along to a thumping soundtrack from Aerosmith. There are five speakers per seat, totalling 120 speakers in the whole stretched limo! The audio system adds another element of fun to this brilliant coaster and helps carry the theming through from start to finish. The soundtrack for the ride was created before the ride was built and the ride was then laid out with features synchronising with the music.
This ride is completely indoors and uses a lot of neon colours and black lighting to really make the neon colours stand out. It is not as dark as other rides, for example Space Mountain, and doesn’t feel at all closed in, however some riders may not like the dark. This ride first opened in 1999, however, it is still immensely popular and definitely one of the major attractions at the park, so queues can be long.
As to the question of do you make it to the concert in time . . . well, you’ll need to ride it to find out!
