RAINY DAYS AT EPCOT
Occasionally during your holiday in Orlando you may experience a rainy day. If you stay indoors and you are at a hotel it can be hard to keep the children amused in a confined space. If you are staying at a villa it is far easier to entertain the children although it seems a shame to waste part of your holiday indoors.
You must take the weather warnings seriously and please do not go out during the rains of a hurricane or an electrical storm.
However most of the time you can go get your ponchos and head out for the day. We tend to get our ponchos from Dollar shops or Publix where they are far cheaper than at the Parks. However if you get to the Parks without them do not worry they suddenly appear at all the Disney and Universal Attractions as soon as the rain starts!
Cheap ponchos or even carrier bags are also useful for covering up you back pack. Poncho hoods are notorious for slipping off your head try and secure them with a pair if sunglasses. The ponchos will come in useful in the future for the water rides.
Do not forget to bring a change of socks just in case your feet get soaked. Wet feet in trainers soon lead to blisters.
We usually head off to Epcot as it has a host of indoor attractions. You can go to the Land Pavilion and take the Behind the Seeds Tour that lasts about an hour. Even when the girls were young they enjoyed this. You go through the greenhouses and labs and see how Disney grow their plants.
At Innovations East younger children can learn to use a computer mouse, join other children chasing the light beams on the floor and have a great time jumping on the energy exhibit. There is lots of colouring to be done here as well. Boys and their Fathers may enjoy the technology exhibits. Ladies will enjoy shopping at Mouse Gear next door.
Visit Innovations West area and send all your friends and family free email picture postcards. We also took pictures in different poses of ourselves with different digital backgrounds and we sent copies of the emails to ourselves that we put in our holiday photo album when we got home.
Tour the World Showcase at Epcot and you will find that many of the countries have indoor movies/exhibits that tend to get overlooked. You will also find shops, live entertainers and places to eat. The countries are close together so you will not get very wet going from country to country.
Some families choose to eat at Sunshine Seasons, which is a great food court that offers a wide variety of selections whilst up above you are beautiful hot-air balloons.
You could also head to the Rose & Crown to enjoy a pint of beer and some piano tunes with Pam Brody. If you get hungry, whilst still keeping dry, you can order the snack size version of Harry Ramsden’ s famous fish and chips from one of the bartenders!
You and the family can have a great day in the rain at Epcot.
