Florida Guide > Days Out
What to do on a rainy day
One of my favourite things to do on a rainy day in Florida and lets face it there aren’t very many of those, is a trip to one of the many Flee markets. There are several about two on the US192 one a little way further down called the Farmers Market and there is also one at Clermont I haven’t ever got as far as that one yet but have visited the other ones on the US192.
The two on the US192 are on the left hand side, a little way past the super Wal-Mart you could pop in there on the way ! the only trouble with that idea is I would then never get to the Flee market I just love Wal-Mart! but that’s another story (like the time I went in for just a couple of things and when I came out nearly fours hours later it was dark!)
The Flea markets are held in three or four giant marquees that meet in the middle so you can work your way round without getting wet. There is places to eat and drink on the way round too, you can spend several happy hours looking at all the bargains. The nearest to compare them to in our part of the country in the UK is Snetterton market but that one used to be outside so certainly wouldn’t be a wet weather visit there !
What can you buy there? Anything and everything from large items of furniture to small items like fridge magnets. One of the stalls I like is the one with the Air-plants, you can take them back to the UK even though they are plants as they don’t have any soil with them, they will package them up and they will survive without watering them for several days and they do survive, my Mother-in-law still has hers that we took back from a year ago and it has flowered since then too, you can also take cuttings from them. They come in all sorts of pretty settings and make lovely presents.
There is the usual T-shirts and beach towels, pictures , silk plants, CD’s DVD’s, trainers and of course suitcases that most of us end up buying to take all the extra baggage home that we have bought. I always seem to end up at the Candle stall , the lovely fragranced candles are beautiful especially the ones that are all hand carved, mine must be the nicest smelling suitcase on the plane each time I go as I always end up buying loads for presents and for myself.
The Farmers Market a bit further down the US192 has it’s own Circus, just a small one but they do a couple of shows during the day and this seems to amuse the children, they also take photo’s of the children with some of the animals. In all it makes a day out, sometimes you can have enough of all the Designer outlets and there is no pressure to buy anything just have a wander round. Next time you go why not pop in and see for yourself.
