Queueing At Theme Parks - Part 2
Fast Pass + (At Disney World)
Beating the Disney queues with fast pass isn’t as easy as it used to be. Under the new Fast Pass+ system you can nominate 3 rides for the day. You are given time slots and if you turn up at your appointed fast pass time and find the queues are short you can choose to not use Fast Pass+ and nominate a different ride.
The Disney Experience app.
This app tells you what’s going on in the park when and gives you up to date wait times for all the rides. You can instantly see which rides to target and which to avoid. Wait times fluctuate wildly, at one point you could see a wait time of 90 minutes yet half an hour later the queue could be just 30 minutes.
Another tip is. if you want to move fast and don’t mind your party being split up, declare yourselves as single riders or groups of three when asked. Odd numbered groups, particularly singles, are often ushered to the front of the queue. There are actually Single Rider queues at a lot of the rides.
I was taught when I was in retailing that humans always, for some reason, turn right when they enter shops, so we always put the goods we wanted the public to see first on the right. Well the same applies at the theme parks when there are two lines. The left hand line always moves more quickly, so never take the right hand line, even if it seems the shortest. When leaving the park, there are two monorail lines that leave from the main gate. The nearest one (on the right) has a queue a mile long, the second one, on the left, is sometimes completely empty.
On the subject of leaving the parks, this can be one of the busiest things you do all day. The obvious way is to leave before closing time, but then you could miss the firework displays which are so good you would not want to miss them. You could use this time to visit some of the shops that are still open and wait until the rush dies down. You can use the time to get a last drink or something you may have forgotten to buy. Some of the rides stay open a while after the fireworks have finished, so go on them.
We just look for a seat and sit and wait!
