Providence and Harmony Golf courses
Providence course is on highway 17/92. The address is classed as Davenport but from the area of Kissimmee it is not far. .
Providence is a newish gated community and the guard will give you directions to the club house which is at the far end of the community. Most of the areas of housing are only partly constructed to date.
When you get to the clubhouse there is the usual drop off service and plenty of help to get you on the course. There is a small pro shop with a limited selection of clothes etc so make sure you take everything you need with you. We got a voucher from Edwin Watts that gave us free range balls otherwise you will have to buy them.
There is reasonable driving range area down in front of the clubhouse. The course is 6929 from the black tees and 5110 from the red tees. The rating and slope are 73. 3/131.
The first few holes are in the open and then holes 3, 4, 5 and 6 are through some very nice houses but not closed in. Safe enough for us learner golfers who cannot stay on the fairway yet! Once you get past the 6th hole you cross a wooden bridge into conservation area and the course there is very attractive.
As with most Orlando courses there is plenty of water around and some huge ‘traps. ’ We played the course twice and I would recommend playing on a week day if you can as it was very busy on the Sunday. This was partly due to the tee times being delayed with frost on the ground in November! !
Harmony is about a 45 minute drive from the Disney World area and is on a ‘green’ resort with nature reserves, lakes and walk to school paths for children. Take highway 192, the Irlo Bronson highway east towards St Cloud. Continue past St Cloud and Harmony town is about 15 minutes further on to the left side of the road.
The clubhouse is lovely and is part of the Harmony community facility. There is a bar, restaurant and pro shop.
The Johnny Miller designed course is very long – USGA yardage of 7428 yards with a rating of 76. 1, slope of 136. There are 5 tee boxes with golds at 5955 yards and reds at 5410. A golf cart is a necessity as it such a long course with some long walks between tees. After the 1st hole, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th are over a road and round a lake. After that cross back for the 5th – 9th which are beside houses, but still very open. Its then back past the club house before going on to the back 9 which are much more open and with some very long holes, the 14th and 16th particularly.
The 19th is lively and full of local residents. Great food and really friendly service!
