Planning your trip to Florida
Planning your trip to Florida if you have never been before, may at first feel a little daunting. Apart from the obvious sun clothes and swimsuits do remember to pack some very comfortable shoes – you will be doing a great deal of walking. Also, don’t be tempted to take “dressy” outfits for the evening as Floridians eat very casually indeed. Even in some of the more expensive restaurants, shorts and t – shirts are very often seen. Mind you, having said that, you may find that the air conditioning in the restaurants is set so high, that you may need cardigans or light jackets in the evening, just to wear in the restaurants. So many people go to the restaurants on their way back from the theme parks that the restaurateurs are used to seeing people dressed in their casual day clothes. In fact, I have seen some people is cocktail dresses and suits arrive in restaurants to some very strange looks from the staff and other diners.
If you are used to using the once a day kind of sun creams, it is best to take your own or purchase them at the airport in the UK, as these are not readily available in Florida. All other toiletries are much cheaper to buy when you arrive, so no need to pack them.
Try and get as much information as you can from the internet or from brochures as to what there is to do in Florida and try to plan what you will be doing during your stay so that you do not miss anything. Also do some research (especially on sites like this) as to what other things there are to do apart from the parks. Try and do a park every other day so that you will not be exhausted from all the walking. More gentle ideas are, airboat rides, crazy golf, water theme parks, horseback riding, visiting a beach, nature reserve parks, balloon rides or helicopter rides. Of course there is always my favourite – shopping!
You will not be able to do a Florida theme park holiday staying in a villa without a car, so book your car hire well in advance to avoid disappointment. You could do every trip by taxi but that would be quite expensive and very restricting. Public transport is not allowed inside the perimeters of the parks so you would not even be able to get in without a car or a taxi.
Above all have a great trip and enjoy the planning, it’s all part of the experience.
