Florida Guide > Days Out
Passe-a-Grille Beach, St Petes
One of our favourite places to visit in Florida is Passe-a-Grille beach at St Petersburg. We take a drive over and spend the day there where they have being laid back down to an art. It is worth waiting for the spectacular sunset, so make sure you have your camera with you.
We now stop for an ice-cream at Paradise Sweets where they serve Working Cow ice cream in enormous waffle cones. The ice cream is delicious and their portions are generous, so make sure you haven' t eaten too much! We discovered this by accident in September and enjoyed the sunset eating our ice creams sitting on their floridian beach chairs and enjoying a cup of tea and coffee. As you would surmise from the name, they also sell sweets with a huge selection to choose from - a child' s paradise! We took our family over during our Christmas break and again we sat and enjoyed the start of the sun going down . . . and just forced ourselves to have one of those scrumptious ice creams! As well as making a great cup of coffee they also serve tea, but not just ordinary tea, but also Earl Grey tea for those with discerning taste (like me - aka dead picky! ). They also have free wi-fi for those of us on the move or who can' t bear to be away from the net for too long. So if you find yourself this way do check out Paradise Sweets.
This time we also had lunch at the restaurant above, Brass Monkey. Their catchphrase is ' We overlook nothing but the beach' . The owners moved down a few years ago from Maryland where they had a restaurant, and this is reflected in the choice of seafood. We had a great snack lunch, grouper and fries for 3 and Maryland crabcake and fries for 1, all with a caesar salad. Warm and friendly service and great food with a view to die for. Could you ask for more?
We have also eaten at The Pub at Indian Shores which overlooks the intercoastal waterway and offers food at excellent prices. I can recommend the coconut shrimp!
As the sun started to go down further we headed for the rooftop bar at The Hurricane and enjoyed the views where you really feel you are looking out to the end of the world as the view just goes on and on.
And then there are the sunsets. Stunning . . spectacular . . stupendous . . what more can I say. The pictures say far more than I can.
The parking is pay and display and there is a beach where you can hire deck chairs from the beachfront bar.
If you are looking for a slower pace of life then Passe-a-Grille is a great place to visit.
