Our Stay at Treasure Island Part 4

If you walk to your right on the beach from the Thunderbird you get to St John’s Pass however there is also a nice walk if you turn left. As there is a public car park close by the beach gets busy with families ( although still loads of space) and then you tend to have quite a quite strip with just a few fishermen but not as many as when you walk to St Johns Pass.

Once 1. 00pm arrives as you stroll along here you start to hear plenty of music. This comes from Caddy’s Bar which is a great favourite with the locals and mostly the younger set. It is a great bar/grill which opens about 7. 00am for breakfast which tends to be the quietest meal of the day here!

Caddy’s is on two storeys and plenty of space at the front on the beach where they provide lots of sun loungers I am not sure but I suspect you need to pay to rent these. Recently I have seen adverts for pre booking private Cabanas at Caddys. For those who drive here there is a fair sized car park but this can get very busy. Music starts at 1. 00pm each day and Monday to Wednesday they have local bands and Thursdays is Motown. Sundays when it gets extremely busy they have a DJ. There is a volley ball net here but you may well have to wait a while for a game.

We particularly like the lunch menu which goes on until late afternoon. We sometimes stroll up here when the heat of the day gets too much. They have some lovely fresh seafood and my Father always opts for the Peel and Eat Shrimp. Last time we went my Mother and I shared a Platter with Mozzarella Sticks, Jalapeno Peppers and Onion Rings, this was served with Caddy’s own Horseradish Sauce which I can really recommend. Mother and I were not so hungry after this so we just shared a Pasta Salad that was excellent while Dad chose St Louis Style Ribs with sides of coleslaw and fries.

After lunch you can take a leisurely stroll back along the beach and as you approach the Bilmar Resort particularly on Sundays you will see some great Kites being flown above your heads they manage to get them flying very high.

Outside the Bilmar and sometimes at the Thunderbird you can also see Weddings on the beach, this is a lovely spectacle with white chairs and flowers set out on the beach.
