Our First Ever Visit to Florida - Part 4

We arrive at the desk as our row has been called, a quick check of our boarding cards and passports and were through and in the covered walkway to the airplane, this is where the excitement begins as this was our first transatlantic flight we were all excited to be getting onto a Jumbo Jet.

The kids couldn’t believe just how big this plane was and how it would actually fly, we get to the entrance of the plane the three flight attendants look at our tickets and point us in the right direction.

To the left is the cockpit the door is wide open and you can see the controls and to captain in those days the door was always open and the captain would often come inside the passenger area and ask if any children would like to pop along and see the cockpit once we were safely in the air and cruising unlike today where the cabin door remains locked throughout the journey for the safety of the flight.

We shuffle down the crowded aisle and soon find out seat numbers and as always find that the overhead lockers to our seats are already full with hand luggage a few minute rooting around we cram our bags and hand luggage into any available space.

Next, its time to decide who is getting the window seat of the seat next to the aisle once you have made a few journeys like this you will have this decided before you board the plane, ok so now we're all in our seats time to make sure everyone is safely belted into their seats.

A few minutes later everyone is seated and its time to start the safety procedures demonstration. This is before the video that everyone is shown nowadays, the airline stewards show everyone how to put on the life jackets, oxygen masks and show us our escape routes.

Once this is over you can hear the engines turning over as the pilots tries to start them within a few minutes you hear them rumbling into life, this is when the kids can get a little worried you feel the plane move backwards and turn to start to taxi.

The plane moves along the tarmac quite slowly the kids are looking out the windows watching the planes in front of us all taking off, within minutes were at the head of the runway.
