Our First Ever Visit to Florida - Part 2
Right so we have chosen the destination the hotel, the airline and the airport and even the amount of luggage that we are taking all we need now is to arrange our traveller's cheques, yes that’s right I said travellers cheques in those days everyone took travellers cheques as using a credit card was incredibly expensive. You even had to ring up your bank and order the USA Dollar traveller's cheques to be delivered to your bank because they didn’t keep such things in the bank not like nowadays you can nip down to the local supermarket and pick up any currency that you may need.
Luckily we all had current passports as we had previously been to Europe on a family holidays and so that was one thing that was already done and sorted, car hire what sort of car would we need how big who would drive we needed some form of transport from the airport in Sanford to the hotel and vice versa.
Trevor my brother in law came forward offering to drive and my wife Shirley offer to be the backup driver I had driven in Europe before and found that I did not like the experience at all so didn’t volunteer, as they say, one volunteer is worth ten pressed men.
As there were eight of us in total our party comprising of 4 adults and 4 children we decided that a van might be the best vehicle for us all, now the vans in America are not the same as in the UK the van we got was like the van in the Scooby Doo cartoon very long and full of seat but not painted in the multi colours of the Mystery Machine of course.
OK well, that’s everything sorted so we now had a long wait until it was time to go on vacation but in truth the date of the trip soon came around, we had four very excited children the night before and indeed 4 excited adults.
We chose to stop at a hotel close to the airport that included parking for the cars and meant we didn’t have to be up quite so early but in truth, none of us slept very well that night and we were all glad to be loading our suitcases into the hotel airport courtesy van that morning.
A fifteen minute ride through the traffic and we were soon arriving at the airport, we dragged our cases through the door and found the Virgin terminal, we checked in our luggage and got our boarding passes and made our way to the departures lounge
