Our Favourite Evening Out
After a lazy day by the pool we often look forward to what we consider to be our favourite evening out.
In late October at around four in the afternoon the heat of the sun is just beginning to dissipate and this is our signal to vacate the sun loungers, have a shower and head on out.
We tend to drive to a parking lot near Disney’s Boardwalk. From here we can enjoy a gentle stroll to the Swan and Dolphin hotels. Sometimes we take the motor launch across the lake to the International Gateway entrance at Epcot, or if we are feeling a bit more energetic, and the sun isn’t too hot, we will walk the clockwise route around the lagoon to reach the same destination.
We usually like to get to Epcot at around 6. 00pm, which gives us the opportunity to wander around the World Showcase and take in some of the live entertainment on offer, which on our last visit included such artists as David Cassidy, the Four Tops and Little Richard. Another favourite of mine are the drummers in the Japanese pavilion.
It is essential to book any restaurant in Epcot well in advance and on this occasion we had a reservation in the Chefs de France at 7. 00pm and were fortunate to have window seats so could watch the world go by outside. You are rarely disappointed with the food or quality of service in any Disney establishment, and on this occasion, the salmon and duck dishes that we ordered were superb.
Not being in any particular rush, we had dessert and coffee before watching the wonderful firework display Illuminations - Reflections of Earth from the comfort of our seats by the window.
After the park closes we head for the Boardwalk area, which seems to come alive at night with lots of street entertainment and amusement stalls. We love to see the lights dancing off the water and the motor launches plying their trade to all points around the lake.
Then it’s back to the car and drive over to Disney’s ‘Winter / Summerland’ for a spot of miniature golf which is themed in accordance with the seasons.
It takes about an hour to complete eighteen holes and by this time the majority of traffic heading away from the parks has all but disappeared and we are usually able to enjoy a swift and trouble-free journey back to our villa.
