Orlando Magic v Philadelphia 76ers
During our annual family holiday to Florida last year we decided to go to a basket ball game. Our son Daniel chose the game and on Saturday 15th April we went to the TD Waterhouse Centre to see Orlando Magic v Philadelphia 76ers. In previous years we had enjoyed watching games on the television and were looking forward to a “live” game.
The TD Waterhouse Centre was very easy to find in Downtown Orlando. The centre is similar to the NIA in Birmingham or the MEN Arena in Manchester. Big screens around the arena ensured that we were able to see close ups of all the action and replays when points were scored. We sat quite near to a supporters band complete with drums, trumpets etc which reminded us of the one that follows the England football team who would strike up at regular intervals during the game in celebration of their team’s success.
The evening was more than just a basket ball game. The entertainment began long before the game started. When we arrived the teams were in the arena warming up and carrying out their pre match stretching routines - very entertaining for the physiotherapist in the family. The team mascot “Stuff” the Magic dragon entertained the crowd during the pre match formalities.
Once the game started the action came fast and furious. During time outs, a variety of entertainers were used to amuse the crowd. These included the “Magic” dancers, The Dancers Dads, and people shooting T shirts high into the crowd from huge tubes! !
At half time two quick change artists treated the crowd to an amazing performance. How did they manage to change into so many different outfits so quickly behind a magic screen set up in the centre of the arena.
Orlando Magic managed to win the game although the scores were very close. The crowd were very enthusiastic and it was difficult not to get carried away with the crowd. Before the end of the game we were joining in with the chant “Lets go Magic”
The evening was good all round family entertainment and was much more than a sporting event. We enjoyed it so much we are going again in April this year to see Orlando Magic v Torronto Raptors.
We would thoroughly recommend attendance at basket ball game. It makes a welcome change to the theme parks and can guarantee that during the evening there will be something to entertain everybody.
