ONE FLIGHT UP; A DIFFERENT PLACE TO EAT!
You can never go to Mt Dora too often; the mix of beautiful lake, intriguing shops and
different restaurants make for a wonderful day out.
The last time we were there we discovered One Flight Up and I do mean discovered! If you do not search for it you will not find it as it is all based on the first floor (or second for our American friends)
You have to get yourself to North Donnelly Street and look for a door with their name over the top. Make your way up the stairs and to the front of the building and you are there.
First choice to make is where to sit; there are comfortable armchairs and sofas inside or you can sit outside on the balcony. Our choice was to sit on the balcony and watch the world go by and chat to the locals at the other tables.
Now this is not a place to go to for fine dining; It is basically soup and sandwiches with a bar.
If you get there early enough (we did not) Then they have bagels and danish and quiche (odd that, we thought) these will cost you from $2. 55 to $5. 95.
We did make it for lunch and there was a selection of appetisers priced from $4. 55 to $11. 95. The cheapest offering was Chips and Salsa at $4. 55 and the most expensive Cheese Plate which is made with gourmet crackers and olives, fruit and nuts.
There are a selection of sandwiches ranging from Harvest Chicken to Honey Ham and Swiss. You can choose your bread and they all come with crisps or pretzels and lettuce and tomato. Any sandwich will set you back at $8. 55
I rarely choose a sandwich out and I did not this time either. The salads are rather more tempting and range from Caprese salad (yum) to Blue Cheese and Walnut Crumble to Tangy Summer Salad with apples, walnuts and craisins.
All salads are $8. 95
Everyone likes a dessert and on the day we visited they had Blueberry crumble cheesecake, Praline bread pudding, a Brownie Sundae and Coconut Cake. Whichever one you choose they are all $5. 95. The Praline Bread Pudding was delicious but REALLY filling.
Coffees are from $1. 95 and perfectly acceptable but we have been spoilt by the specialist coffee shops. Wines are around $7 a glass and beer around $3
There is free WiFi here which is useful if you need to stay in touch.
I have read reports subsequently that the service is poor but this was certainly not true on the day we visited. We were allowed to linger as long as we pleased over our coffee and cake and it made a welcome pause in our busy day.
