NBA City – Universal
Those of you who love basketball, will enjoy NBA City, established in 1999 and which is situated between Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios. As you approach, you can see a huge 30 feet+ statue of the NBA logoman. If you are feeling daring you can shoot some hoops outside to win a prize or like me, as I am no basketball expert, just watch the young pretenders attempt to shoot as many 3 point shots as they can.
As you go inside there is an arcade section on your left with some interactive basketball games – which I do attempt as the hoops are not as far away - and a tip for preferred annual pass holders -you do get some free tokens, so to try your skills - you just have to show your pass. After having played some games you can then visit the store for a souvenir from your favourite team or NBA City itself.
Then into the restaurant which has been voted “Best Theme restaurant in Orlando” twice by the Orlando Sentinel. It is has two levels and is a very dramatic with its high ceilings and many basketball photos and memorabilia on display, together with a huge TV screen which shows footage from NBA Entertainment video archives.
The food on offer is fresh and good quality American style cuisine.
For starters there is a choice of chicken tenders, quesadillas, delicious wings, various salads, pasta, flatbread and the chorizo shrimp which I definitely like.
If you only want a light meal then there is a good choice of sandwiches including chicken and burgers and these are served with the obligatory fries. Alternatively you can try one of their tasty brick oven pizzas with various options for toppings.
For a main course there are some tasty dishes - Jambalaya is my personal preference, but there are many alternatives including the usual array of steaks, some seafood plus ribs which my youngest son enjoyed and he has tried ribs in most of the area restaurants.
If you have room for dessert which unfortunately we did not there is a good choice including a carrot cake and a chocolate bomb with lots of chocolate fudge sauce which my son wants to go back and have next time.
So all in all NBA City provides good American food in a very sporty atmosphere with warm and pleasant surroundings and is a must for basketball lovers.
If you want to burn off some of the calories you can always try the basketball after your meal.
