Narcoossee’s - For that special occasion
During our Easter holiday in Orlando this year we celebrated the 30th wedding anniversary of my sister and her husband.
Some time previously we had decided to take them out for a surprise meal, which meant finding the right restaurant and making sure it had availability for the date of their anniversary.
This caused us a bit of difficulty because they were not really theme park people, which, of course, ruled out all of the lovely restaurants to found around the world showcase in Epcot.
We were also looking for something that little bit special, and were not aware of anything that would fit the bill amongst the many eateries that line both sides of the US192.
So, in the end, we decided to look at the restaurants in the Disney hotels. We had ourselves dined at a few, and on every occasion had enjoyed a good meal with excellent customer service. After a couple of phone calls to the dedicated Disney Dining telephone line we settled for Narcoossee’s, which had availability for the date we wanted. During the telephone conversation we happened to mention it was for a special occasion and the guest services operator asked for the Christian names of my sister and husband. At the time I thought no more of it.
Narcoossee’s is a charming restaurant situated at the rear of Disney’s Grand Floridian and Spa Resort hotel. It is built upon a short promontory that juts out into the Seven Seas Lagoon, which overlooks the Magic Kingdom and the other themed hotels around the lake. If you arriving by car you will need to enter through the Magic Kingdom Toll Plaza but by keeping to the right, so as to avoid the main parking area, the way ahead to the Grand Floridian is well signposted.
After we were shown to our table my sister and husband were presented with their own personalised menu together with Happy Anniversary badges which at first they were a little embarrassed to wear, but soon entered into the spirit of the occasion…(now I know why they asked for their Christian names) This was followed by complimentary champagne.
After we had finished our meals, a small anniversary cake, together with sparkler was brought to the table amidst spontaneous applause from our fellow diners…a really nice touch by the restaurant staff.
To round off a truly memorable evening we retired to the veranda and watched the Magic Kingdom’s enchanting ‘Wishes’ firework display.
