Narcoossee’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort
Narcoossee’s is a signature restaurant at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and is one of Walt Disney World’s best restaurants. It’s certainly one of the resorts most expensive restaurants; however you are partly paying for the location which is built over the shoreline of the Seven Seas Lagoon in a self-contained pavilion.
It is a fairly short walk from the main building to the restaurant. As the restaurant is outside the main lobby you may want to check the weather forecast in the rainy season. As you arrive at the entrance you walk past the Chef’s vegetable and herb garden. This is on each side of the entry sidewalk leading to the building.
There is a small waiting area where you can check-in with your reservation, which is highly recommended, while you wait to be taken to your table. Once you step inside the view to your left will be of the busy show kitchen. You will get a chance to see some of the dishes waiting to go out to the dining room and it may affect your decision on what you fancy that night.
Despite being a high end restaurant it seems to have a very casual feel. The tablecloths are a Royal blue and are complemented by a typical Floridian palate of white and blond woodwork. The restaurant is circular with about two thirds of the space devoted to the dining area. The seating area is stepped, so you have two rows of tables on the lower level and another two rows on the upper level. This allows you to have good view out onto the Lagoon even if you are seated at the back.
Like many people we try to get a window table when we can so that we can enjoy the view all evening. The tables by the windows are mostly for groups of four so if you are just a couple the chances of getting one of the few singles is not high. The tables by the windows offer a prime viewing spot of the electrical boat parade and also the fireworks.
While it’s nice to have a window view in the dining room for the fireworks it is not essential as many people go onto the wrap around decking that looks out over the lake. If you stay at your table you will not miss anything as the Wishes soundtrack is feed into the room just as the fireworks lights up the sky. Servers work well making sure meals are timed so that firework viewing does not detract from the food quality.
If you arrive early then a great place to wait is inside at the bar area. They serve the normal array of cocktails and drinks and this is a really nice place to pass some time. Behind the bar is a large two-story mural; the merging colours are said to depicting a water side setting and gives an interesting focal point to the interior of the restaurant and it adds height to the centre section.
This is just a review of the restaurant location, not an in depth look at the menu. It’s worth mentioning that many restaurants at this end of the market will change a lot of the menu with each season so do check ahead if you have read about a particular dish that you really want to try. The menu here is primarily seafood and since this restaurant is Florida-themed there are normally some local specials. If you are not into seafood then there are other offerings such as steak and chicken.
Overall Narcoossee’s is one of my favourites; it has a nice atmosphere, good service, good food, and one of the best views in the resort. If you are in the market for this style of meal then you are spoilt for choice in the area.
We always have a hard time deciding between Narcoossee’s, Citricos, and the California Grill and it often comes down to what reservations are available. If you want to review the other two restaurants then check out my other articles.
