My Favourite Gentler Rides

There are so many rides in Orlando’s Theme Parks and I thought I would just share some of my favourite gentler rides with you. These are particularly suitable for younger children and if my Mother is anything to go by also suitable for Grandparents!

“It’s a Small World” at Magic Kingdom is one of the oldest milder rides having recently been refurbished. This musical favourite enchants the little ones as well as the parents and grandparents who love this Magic Kingdom classic. But beware the theme song will be going round in your head many hours after you leave the ride.

“Pirates of the Caribbean” is also at Magic Kingdom and has often been updated over the years. You can play “Where’s Johnny” as they keep an eye out for Johnny Depp in his role as Captain Jack from the very successful “Pirates” movies. This is a bit tucked away and we have never had to queue very long for a ride.

It may be worth using the Magic Kingdoms Fastpass system when you go to see “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh”. This is a very colourful and popular ride and puts guests in the middle of Pooh’s very busy day. You can always go to rides with short queues nearby as you wait for your Fastpass time.

Nearby you will find “Peter Pans Flight” where you can relive highlights from the Peter Pan animated feature as you soar through the skies of London with Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Wendy and her siblings. Captain Hook will make an appearance but I never find this scary enough to frighten the young ones.

My Mother’s favourite is “Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin”. In fact I think most adults forget this ride is geared towards children. You go on a daring space mission to save the toy universe from the sinister Emperor Zurg, while firing your personal laser cannon to score points aboard your Star Cruise. Children love to see if they can score more points than their parents.

If you visit Seaworld be sure to go to the “Shamu Express” Although you cannot take babies on board the 38? minimum height requirement enables most children to take their first roller coaster ride. Its top speed of about 15 mph is about as mild as a coaster gets at Orlando’s theme parks.

Over at Epcot “The Seas with Nemo and Friends” is the voice of Dory the blue tang fish, it is lovely and relaxing. You leave the ride via a pavilion filled with native Floridian manatees, fascinating sea creatures and a mini play area which the children really enjoy.

Also at Epcot at “ Journey into Imagination with Figment” you will find, accompanied by an animated dragon known as Figment, former Monty Python troupe member Eric Idle portrays Dr. Nigel Channing, who hosts this ride based on the five senses. There is plenty of catchy music for a sing-a-long.

Islands of Adventure rides tend to be geared towards older children and adults, but at Seuss Landing you will find the “Cat in the Hat” where guests ride a couch through the pages of the famous children’ s book. The little ones love this.

Enjoy the gentler rides my girls always did when they were young and my parents still do!
