Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom
A special Christmas treat for all the family! On selected nights from November 19th to December 19th Magic Kingdom hosts a special Christmas celebration after the usual opening hours.
Even if you have been to Magic Kingdom numerous times this is one not to be missed. After dark, all the day visitors leave and you get to stay on till midnight and see some wonderful festive special shows and events.
Best of all is what they do to the castle – it is draped with lights that make it look as if it is covered in ice – spectacular! Make sure you have a good view to watch the amazing fireworks (see the daily schedule for timings). And if you watch from Main Street it will snow on you from the roof tops!
It was very cold when we were there so go prepared. And buy a Disney Christmas hat on your way in to wear as everyone else does – don’t leave it too late as the best ones were sold out. They even give out free hot chocolate and cookies around the castle. The special Christmas night parade happens twice and again you need to check the schedule when you arrive for timings.
Do make sure you plan your evening – not many restaurants are open and they can be very busy. We ate at Liberty Tree Tavern and had an American meal of salad, Turkey and the trimmings followed by apple cobbler and ice cream, complete with characters such as Minnie and Pluto of course!
There is a stage show special – the Night Before Christmas with all your favourite Disney characters, singing and dancing. This was a great way to get into the festive mood but be aware that is very cold sitting in the outside arena – wrap up warm and take a hot drink in with you. There are other character and musical/dance shows at times around the park.
And of course most of the main attractions are open for you to fill in the time between the Christmas show specials so you can ride Space Mountain or Splash Mountain without long queues.
Tickets can be bought in advance from the Disney website for a discount price or on the day for about $55 + tax. You can go into the Park from 4pm onwards using the special event tickets so get there early and enjoy!
