Mount Dora
If you ever want to go and see another part of Florida historic Mount Dora is certainly worth a look.
It is 20 minutes North of Orlando an easy drive away from the hassle and bustle of buy Orlando and the most wonderful little place you could imagine.
If you want to stay there for a couple of nights there are some really lovely little bed and breakfast Inns to stay at too.
If you visit on a Friday Saturday or Sunday you can even get free valet parking into the town centre although you can easily park nearby at most times unless there is going to be one of their many festivals, antique fairs or Art and craft fairs going on.
There is an antique train that does rides round Mount Dora great for kids young and old and certainly an experience not to miss in this age of modern tecknowlogy.
The shops are wonderful with quaint antique shops and boutiques with unusual gifts and beautiful crafts, one in particular that I liked was full of hand stitched quilts and bed linen it was absolutely gorgeous and very reasonably priced too. It has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and it almost seems like a place that time has forgotten.
You have to also try out one of the many eating places , to up market tea rooms and the more casual bars and grills. The menu’s are varied and different and in the one we went in a huge menu catering for everybody’s different tastes. There are many bars and grills some with outside entertainment so that you can just sit and watch the world go by as you sip a cold drink outside.
It felt to me almost like being on the scene of one of the old American movie towns, you have expected cowboys to ride up on horses or wagons !
You can fish or water ski on Lake Dora and there is a cruise taking you round it too.
There is an evening cruise too which I would imagine is wonderful, if you wander down to the lakeside you can check out the times of the cruises and book one for later on that day.
Sometimes they have live entertainment in the evenings which I’m sure is very enjoyable you would need to go onto their website to check out when any of these events were happening, the same with the craft and antique fairs.
There is an annual Christmas event with carollers and I would imagine the lights and decorations are a sight to behold.
A great little place , one I will certainly be going back to.
