Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party 2008
Although this event is advertised as 7pm until midnight you can actually gain entrance to the Magic Kingdom at 4pm and like many other guests we took advantage of this. Your Christmas Party ticket will get you into the park, no need to use a day on your general admission tickets.
When we went Cast Members were directing regular day guests to enter the left half of the turnstiles and those attending the party to enter the right side.
All party goers were given a wristband after passing through the turnstiles to differentiate them from daytime guests. Come seven o’clock, only guests with wristbands are allowed onto rides and attractions whilst everyone else is asked to leave the park.
On the left side, just before we got to City Hall, were 2 Toy Soldiers and a countdown of ' x' days until Christmas. Behind the sign was a photo opportunity backdrop that included a holiday wreath which we took advantage of.
We had had breakfast at our villa so had a late lunch/early dinner of burgers with the toppings bar soon after we entered the Park. It is the one time in the year my Mother can be seen having a burger but she thoroughly enjoys it!
We then went to Fantasyland for a couple of rides although we left most of our rides until later in the evening when the Park goes quieter and there is hardly any waiting time at all.
We then headed over to the Castle Forecourt to watch the “Castle Lighting Ceremony” that takes place each evening at 6:30. This can get very crowded as both Day guests and Party guests go to this.
The castle lighting show is 15 minutes long and the antics of Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald have to be assisted by Cinderella and her Fairy Godmother to transform the castle into a wonderful work of art with thousands of tiny lights.
We then dashed to the Galaxy Palace Theater in Tomorrowland because we wanted to see the first show of “Mickey’s Twas the Night Before Christmas” which begins at 7pm. In hindsight we would probably have been better going to a later show as this show was very crowded.
In the show, Mickey reads passages from “Twas the Night Before Christmas” as different characters act out parts of the story. The highlight of the program is Minnie singing “Santa Baby” to Goofy dressed in a Santa suit. The show is about 30 minutes long and is very funny.
The Christmas Parade takes place twice a night at 8. 15pm and 10. 30pm and we think the best place to see it is in Main Street. I would suggest going to the later show as I suspect there were a lot of Day guests still in the park at the 8. 15 one as it was very crowded.
The “Celebrate the Season” show is different, but feels similar to the “Twas the Night Before Christmas” show. Mickey and Minnie were joined by a number of “Nutcracker Suite” characters with hilarious consequences. The show was on three times the night we were there.
We did not go to but there was another show available “Belle’s Enchanted Christmas” which took place three times that evening.
There was also two “Character Dance Parties” for the children. At Ariel’s Grotto, Lady Tremaine, and the ugly stepsisters Drizella and Anastasia from Cinderella, can be found on the dance floor. At Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café, Chip and Dale and Stitch get into the act.
We really had a great evening and I must not forget to mention the “Holiday Treats” that were available, free of charge, at various locations throughout the Magic Kingdom. These include hot chocolate, apple juice, cookies, and apple slices. Also available are sugar-free hot chocolate, sugar-free cookies, and gluten-free cookies.
If you ever get the opportunity to go to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party please go you will thoroughly enjoy it.
