Mickeys Magical Milestones
The Magic Kingdom started this tour in 2004 to focus on the main Mouse and the Magic Kingdom. Mickeys Magical Milestones is two-hour tour for tour-goers age 10 and up to visit attractions and special locations that retrace Mickey Mouse's fabled career.
The tour, which costs appox $25 per person plus your Magic Kingdom park entrance, is held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9 a.m. It starts from the Guided Tour Garden adjacent to City Hall (just inside the Magic Kingdom Main Entrance). It is best to arrive at least 15 minutes before tour start time.
My daughter and I were on the tour with another couple. We started out at City Hall; our tour guide took us outside the park to stand in front of the Mickey head flowerbed that graces the entrance and gave us a history of Mickey. At subsequent points throughout the tour, he explained to us the connection that Mickey had to that part of the park, as well as how Walt Disney's ideas influenced that connection. He also peppered his dialogue with mentions of Hidden Mickeys, those strategically placed representations of Mickey Mouse -- throughout the parts of the park we were touring.
By the time we reached Toontown, it still wasn't quite 10 a.m., which is when this section of Magic Kingdom opens. This gave us the chance to have a private tour of Mickey's Country House, which was capped off with a surprise visit from the Big Cheese, who played with my daughter and the other girl before posing for photos.
As it was so early we had Toon Town practically all to ourselves --then HE came out. He was fooling around with us and posed for photos. We then went into a side area for the judging of our drawings! The guide could not decide which was the best one so awarded us all our ears. To my daughters delight Goofy and Pluto came out to present them to us! They wrote our names on the left ear in gold magic marker. We then had another great photo opportunity with Goofy and Pluto.
We continued our trip down Mickey's Memory Lane by making several stops around Fantasyland, with our tour guide pointing out how the various films represented by different attractions had affected the development of the Disney story. Our tour included a quick ride on Snow White's Scary Adventure, followed by a visit to Pinocchio's Village Haus (where the guide pointed out a Hidden Mickey carved into one of the chairs).
We then went to Fantasyland where the guide took us through the back door into Mickey's PhilharMagic, we were able to bypass the wait and go straight into the theatre.
The tour concluded with a stop in a quiet spot behind Liberty Square. A mystery guest met us there, bringing each participant a small gift - but I won't spoil the surprise.
