Market Place Downtown Disney - Part 3
Having told you about the wonderful, shopping and dining in Market Place Downtown Disney, I will now tell you about the attractions there.
There is the cutest little miniature train for the tiny people up to the age of about 8 called, Rio Grande Old Timer and a small carousel for the young ones up to the age of about 12.
All of the Market Place area is built around a lake, which has a river boat taxi taking you to and from the far end parking lot near Planet Hollywood (another great restaurant) which is situated in West Side Downtown Disney. There are also small pedal boats, which you can hire for short trips around the lake.
Around this lake there are tables and chairs with umbrellas to protect you from the sun where you can sit and enjoy a drink or ice cream from one of the many stalls selling wonderful tasty treats such as churros, hot popcorn, ice creams and drinks.
In the centre of Market Place is a stage, which hosts all kinds of entertainment. School choirs, bands, groups, magicians, childrens entertainers and at Christmas, carol singers. The last show I saw there was a hula hoop competition, so you see the entertainment at this stage is very diverse.
All around the Market Place are seasonal entertainers and displays. They have magnificent Halloween tableaux and at Christmas, the place is just alive with all manner of festive fun. Father Christmas, naturally, arrives with his reindeer and greets the children in his grotto and carol singers dressed in typical “Christmas Card” costumes of crinolines and velvet pantaloons. The whole area is awash with Christmas trees and fairy lights.
Every November for 2 days They host the Festival of Masters, an open air art festival featuring over 150 award winning artists. Last year they had fantastic pavement artists with drawings covering several feet across. It seemed such a shame that they would all be washed away when it rainded.
One feature of Market Place is every little girls dream. Located in the World of Disney, is a room where they make up and dress little girls as Princesses. They wear elaborate wigs, sparkly make up and wear dresses just like Cinderella’s. You see them all walking around feeling absolutely wonderful for a day. There are so many other outfits in the store that you will often see little boys dressed as Cap’n Jack from the Pirates of the Caribbean or as Peter Pan or Buzz Lightyear so both sexes are catered for.
So whether you make this your first stop of the holiday or the last (a great way to spend a few hours waiting for your trip to the airport for your journey home), you will thoroughly enjoy yourself.
