Beach Boys
Who cannot have heard of the Beach Boys? This American rock band, formed in 1961 in California, which initially comprised three brothers and their cousin, plus a friend, was iconic – almost as iconic as the Beatles. Their close vocal harmonies were very popular and their songs reflected the Southern Californian youth culture. Their songs evoke memories of surfing, cars and romance. Remember ‘Good Vibrations, ’ or ‘Wouldn’t it be Nice’ or ‘God Only Knows’ or ‘Sloop John B? ’ I only have to hear one of these to be whisked away to the California beaches, with rolling surf breaking on golden sands, and blue skies overhead.
