Manny’s Chop House (6)
We have heard good reports about Manny’s Chop House from numerous sources, including the forums on this site and decided it was time to give it a try.
Manny’s is located on Highway 27. Going south on Highway 27 from the Disney area (Highway 192) it is on the right hand side just before Haines City.
We arrived to a half full car park and had no problems in parking. On entering we were welcomed and guided to our table. The décor was typical old American diner style, with the walls being covered in old car number plates and related items. The atmosphere was very friendly and we noticed just how many locals were using the restaurant. We knew they were locals because they were greeted by name as they came through the door. We have noticed just how good some Americans are at remembering names and faces
Our server came over to introduce herself. Her name was Michelle, which she wrote in big letters onto the paper table cover. She also wrote the manager’s name for us – Manny. A menu was left with us along with a few tips on what to order and what her favourites were. We were shown a display cabinet with all the cuts of meat on show. They had some super cuts including fillet steak wrapped in bacon, T-bone, sirloin and lots of others.
We had a tough time deciding on what to go for. In the end we both chose a fillet steak as these looked sumptuous. We know we are a little unadventurous, but we like what we like. Michelle took our order and very shortly returned with a massive bowel of salad. She asked us if she could prepare it for us, having said, “ Yes please” she dressed it and tossed it at our table. This was followed by hot bread and butter.
The salad tasted glorious and so did the bread, We had to be careful as we could have easily feasted ourselves on what we had in front of us without waiting for the main course. When the steaks arrived they were stunning, real tender and melt in your mouth. Michelle enquired if we wanted anything else and was everything to our liking. As normal in Florida our soft drinks were topped up free charge.
All the time we were in the restaurant Manny was floating around talking to customers and welcoming new arrivals. The place was fairly full but did not feel crowded. The music in the background was typical Country and Western and not too loud, also there were large TV screens showing baseball, which the locals took great delight in booing, moaning and gasping at during the match.
After we had finished al we could eat we were offered a box to take the remains home in, a lot of customers were taking up this offer. We, being reserved British, declined.
We were both delighted with the place, the atmosphere, the food and the service and cannot wait for our return to Florida so as we can revisit Manny’s.
A couple of words of warning, this is a typical American diner with a bar that locals come in and use and secondly this may not be the place to eat if you are a veggie. None of these worry us and we would have no hesitation in recommending Manny’s Chop House.
