Magic Kingdom in Half a Day
Magic Kingdom was the first theme park at Walt Disney World, opening in 1971. Although it is open 365 days a year obviously it gets very busy during school holidays Christmas and Easter. I believe Magic Kingdom can sometimes close the gates early on Christmas Day when it reaches its capacity. As with all the Parks it is best to buy your tickets before you get to the park to avoid the queues which can be quite lengthy.
If you want to have lunch at Magic Kingdom it is best to make prior reservations as the places are taken very quickly.
Check the opening times on line and plan to arrive at Magic Kingdom' s front gate before the park opens in the morning. Do not forget that to reach Magic Kingdom, you must park at Disney World' s Transportation and Ticket Center parking lot, ride on a tram to the TTC, then take a monorail or ferry boat across the Seven Seas Lagoon to the Magic Kingdom. We love the ferry boat but it takes extra time. Give yourself an extra hour in the summer and half-hour if you are going during the school year.
When you enter the Park head to the end of the Main Street, nearest the castle. Turn left and cross the Adventureland Bridge on your way to Splash Mountain, where you will pick up Fastpasses for everyone in your group. (You can save a couple minutes by cutting through the Adventureland breezeway, opposite the Swiss Family Treehouse, into Frontierland, where you then can make a quick left towards Splash Mountain. ) We usually send my brother with all the families’ tickets to get the Fastpasses.
We then all go up the hill to go on Bug Thunder Mountain railroad. After we have been on this we use our Fastpasses for Splash Mountain before heading back to Adventureland to go on Pirates of the Caribbean.
We then walk back through Frontierland to Liberty Square to go to the Haunted Mansion. From here it is easy to go to Fantasyland to see Mickey’s Phillarmagic – don’t forget to look behind you at the back wall at the end of the show!
Onto Tomorrowland and you probably need to choose between Splash Mountain and Buzz Lightyear and get the appropriate Fastpasses.
While waiting for your Fastpass time you can go to see the Monsters Inc Comedy Club Show and then go to your Fastpass choice.
By now it will be lunchtime and you can either go to your lunchtime reservation or, as we usually do, grab burgers and fries and enjoy the great selection of Magic Kingdom’s toppings bar.
