Lunch with a Disney Imagineer
Last December my Father treated my Mother to a surprise lunch with a Disney Imagineer. Apparently you can make reservations for this lunch 60 days in advance and it takes place on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays at 11.30am. Adults pay approx $65 and children approx $40 although there were no children there the day my parents went.
I believe they also offer a Dinner package as well and my parents intend to go on this next year.
You meet a member of the creative team behind the latest theme park and resort projects for an informal, intimate lunch at the Disney Hollywood Studios Hollywood Brown Derby. They also got a glimpse of the creative process that these talented Imagineers share and what it's like to work in this magical place.
They enjoyed VIP treatment, starting with seating in the private Bamboo Room at the Brown Derby.
There lunch was with a Vice President of Ride Development. They were supplied with menus for the lunch with our own names on! There were only seven guests at their meal and they started with oyster brie and the Brown Derby’s famous cobb salad. For the main course my Father had a great steak whilst my Mother had pan-seared grouper with asparagus. A good wine accompanied this and dessert was vanilla creme brulee with a gingersnap.
My parents said they were surprised how quickly everyone was at ease and the conversation flowed very easily. The gentleman started by giving them a historical background on himself and the Disney Imagineering. They were told little known facts about the parks and about a Hidden Mickey on the Soarin' ride that most people miss. They wont tell us what but it is something to do with the golf ball flying past your head!
They also found out that some projects that were on the board are still there but just put on hold until they were needed, Beastly Kingdom being one of. The need for a thrill ride was more pressing than another area in Animal Kingdom, so the new Everest was built prior to Beastly Kingdom. The gentleman was so very friendly and informative that they all lost track of time and it was 2:30 pm before they finished.
When the gathering broke up they were presented with special plates to commemorate their time together, signed by their Imagineer host.
My parents said this was a terrific event. The food was delicious, the service excellent, and their Imagineer was friendly and told lots of interesting stories. They would highly recommend this event to anyone interested in learning more about Walt Disney World and the creative process that goes into making the parks and attractions.
