Florida Guide > Dining
Lunch in the villa.
When you are Florida you will certainly want to spend some days in the parks but there comes a time when the family clamour to have a day by the pool in your villa and enjoy all your home has to offer.
If it is hot then you will probably not want to eat anything cooked. We like to get in some kaiser rolls from Walmart or a couple of french sticks. This makes a good start to your feast.
Have ready in your fridge some cooked meats (chicken ham or turkey) and some flavoursome cheese (try sharp cheddar and some of that cheese with walnuts)
You can then make up a variety of different sandwiches/ rolls to suit all your family.
Next grab some salad ingredients from your fridge and make a salad bowl; lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber (of course) but also think of adding some grated carrot, thinly sliced apple or pear and some hard boiled eggs. Raw mushroom, a handfull of walnuts or some olives are also nice. It is worth noting that the shops now stock English cucumbers that are moere to the Brits tastebuds.
You will probably have bought some dressing from the store and hey, you are on holiday so life is too short to start whisking some home made stuff; just stick out some mayo or thousand island.
A bag of crisps (or chips as we have learned to call them) make a great side dish to this casual meal.
If you are planning on staying in all day then you can open a bottle of wine and a few beers for the adults. Children will be happy with some pop of some kind or a glass of milk. The chocolate milk that they sell in massive containers is not sweet and is a treat for the younger ones.
For pudding we like to open a tub of premium ice cream and serve that with some fresh fruit or cookies (or both) They have good Key Lime Pie in most of the stores and that seems appropriate for this holiday and is refreshing.
A perfect conclusion would be some big jugs of iced tea with a layer of ice on the top. You can easily buy this ready made almost anywhere.
It is important to watch that you do not get dehydrated in the heat odf a Florida summer and you will notice that Floridians drink a lot of iced tea so when in Rome. . . . .
