Lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern
This restaurant no longer serves Character Meals and with this in my mind my parents and I decided to have lunch here.
This restaurant is situated in Liberty Square and the colonial furnishings and artifacts provide a comfortable setting while you enjoy your meal. The menu has a lot of New England fare, but there are plenty of other choices to choose from as well.
You may wonder why you are asked where you are from when you check in at the podium at the Liberty Tree but you soon know the answer. In keeping with the Colonial theme, ' the Kellys from New York' are summoned and escorted to one of six rooms. Everyone is introduced by their family name and where they come from.
We decided to go at lunchtime as the Liberty Tree Tavern is an often overlooked at this time of day and it provides great respite from the typically hectic Magic Kingdom day. At lunchtime it is rarely very full and you can usually just walk in and get a table. In fact it is probably our favourite place to eat in all the Disney Parks. We decided on a late lunch having arrived very early at the Park. This way we could have a large leisurely lunch and not have to eat in crowded restaurants before staying later on for the fireworks.
As a starter my father had the New England Clam Chowder which he declared to be excellent, praise indeed from someone who is becoming something of an expert on Chowder! Mother and I both opted for Tavern Fried Cheese which was served with marinara sauce, it was really delicious.
For my main course I chose New England Pot Roast which was the Tavern Keeper' s Favourite and I can understand why. It was braised beef in a cabernet wine and mushroom sauce served with mashed potatoes and garden vegetables. After over a week in Orlando I was beginning to crave vegetables and I really enjoyed this.
My Mother ordered Colony Salad this included apples, sweet pecans, smoked cheddar cheese, and grilled chicken with greens in a beautiful honey tasting vinaigrette.
Dad, not sharing my craving for vegetables, enjoyed his meal of a Tri-Corner Sandwich which was Roast beef and Swiss cheese with coleslaw, horseradish cream sauce accompanied by fries. He even found room for a Caramel Apple Tart served with a cinnamon ice cream.
Mother feeling good because she had had a salad as her main course opted for a Three-Chocolate Brownie! This was a dark, milk, and white Chocolate Brownie with Cherry Ice Cream. My Pot Roast had meant I no longer had room for a dessert.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our leisurely meal and carried on refreshed for the rest of our visit to Magic Kingdom.
