Lombard's Seafood Grille
Lombard’s Seafood Grille can be found in the San Fransisco/Amity area of Universal Studios in a section which is beautifully laid out to give the feeling of a fisherman’s wharf. Outside the restaurant there are boats tied up to a quay (the owners of the boats seem to have gone off to have their lunch!), a wooden boardwalk and various other things which really add to the atmosphere and make you feel as though you have stepped out of a theme park and into a small coastal town.
As you enter the cool reception area of the restaurant you will be greeted and shown to your table where your waiter or waitress will look after you. The waiters and waitress are all very smart, helpful and professional. The interior is beautifully decorated and has a very elegant feel to it.
On three sides of the main part of the restaurant there are large windows, and the tables positioned by them have a superb view out over the lagoon, although most of the tables also have views of the window. The centrepiece of the restaurant is a fabulous, large fish tank, with an interesting assortment of brightly coloured fish, which has tables on each side of it.
The menu is strong on seafood, as you would expect, but also has some meat and vegetarian dishes too. There is a special ‘catch of the day’ each day. The menu is not huge, but it is certainly varied and interesting.
Here is an idea of what the menu might offer you - chowder, soup, clams or stuffed mushrooms for Starters. Chicken, Cobb, or seafood salads with Entrees of fish and chips, fillet steak, ravioli or lobster risotto. If a sandwich is what you prefer there are several to choose from, some with a seafood theme and some not. There are not many puddings to choose from but they are all lovely. A display tray will be brought to your table so that you can see them before you make your choice. Be warned though – your firm resolve not to have a pudding will disappear once you see them! Fresh bread is made every day and will be brought to you at the beginning of your meal.
I would say that Lombard’s is the best restaurant in Universal Studios. The service is excellent, the atmosphere is wonderful and calm, and the food is delicious. It is the perfect haven to spend an hour or so in, away from the bustle and heat of the park.
