Logans Restaurant
Pop into Logans restaurant on the 192 and you may wonder what you’ve walked into, the floor will be absolutely scattered with monkey nut shells, it really looks quite a sight. The first time that we visited under recommendation, we really wasn’t going to stay but, out of the corner of my eye I saw behind a glass panel, the chefs working cooking everyone’s meals, the meat, particularly the steaks, looked magnificent, and as my eldest son is definitely a carnivore, we decided to stay and eat.
As with all good eating places, there was a queue, and this is where the monkey nut shells on the floor come from, in the middle of the waiting area there is a barrel full of monkey nuts, they give you a small bucket and you fill it from this barrel, gives you something to munch on while you are waiting, however, they soon cleared the queue and a waiter took us to our table.
As soon as we had sat down, another waiter came for us to order drinks, these came and then someone bought us a basket full of buns, I would have been happy just eating those, they were lovely, and two basketfuls later our meals came. Steak and chips as usual for the eldest and his girlfriend, the steak was the size of Scotland and as thick as an encyclopaedia but probably the tenderest meat that I’ve ever put in my mouth. The youngest had his favourite, chicken nuggets. I cant remember what the wife had, but I had Catfish, I usually like to try food that I haven’t had before but up to this point had never seen Catfish on the menu, it was a very strange experience and I’ll try to explain the taste below.
Have you ever emptied an ornamental pool and smelled the mud at the bottom, or trod in some mud at the side of the river or estuary or somewhere and you have got that muddy, watery smell, well, when you first put the Catfish in your mouth, that’s what it tastes like, that smell, but strangely enough, not unpleasantly so, but it is a bit of a shock, by the time that you get to the second mouthful and you know what to expect, you really are getting to quite like the flavour, by the end of the meal, you’re a fan and will certainly eat it again when you next see it on the menu.
Sweets followed and we were not disappointed at that either and so I can recommend a visit to Logans on the 192 when you are looking for somewhere different to eat.
