Live Entertainment in Epcot - Part I
When you think about the theme parks, what comes into your mind first? The rides and attractions of course. I bet you didn’t even think about all the marvellous and varied live entertainers around the parks, did you? The number of different live entertainers throughout Epcot will amaze you.
Firstly, there are the numerous Disney character greetings around the park. Be sure to look at your park guide to check where and at what time these are taking place. One of my favourite acts are the “JAMMitors”, they are usually performing around the Innoventions area but again check your park guide. Using a clever play on the word Janitor, this “cleaning crew” are a percussion band playing trashcans and dustpans and are very entertaining.
In World Showcase there are live entertainers in every country around the lagoon. In Mexico there will be traditional folk music, look out for the group either inside the building or outside in the courtyard. Again in Norway there will be live folk musicians, whilst in China you really should not miss the acrobats. The agility of the children performing has to be seen to be believed.
If you enjoy a bit of “oompah, pah” music head on over to the Germany pavilion to hear the band inside the Biergarten restaurant. Singing saws and the alpenhorn are part of their repertoire. Also, keep a look out for the various human statues throughout the park. They do look incredibly like stone statues and a few unsuspecting guests have been caught out in the past whilst standing beside them to have their photographs taken!
Another of my favourite live acts is the Voices of Liberty at the American Adventure. Step inside the building and listen to their wonderful repertoire of traditional American folk songs and patriotic music. They are an eight part a cappella group, who have during their careers, performed live for no less that five United States Presidents.
Another venue for live entertainment is the America Gardens Theatre. We have watched and listened to some wonderful entertainers at this outdoor theatre in the past from Irish dancers to famous bands to the magnificent Candlelight Processional held at Christmas. During Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival the concerts, which are named the Flower Power Concerts, feature acts from the 1960’s. Performers have included Davy Jones, The Turtles, Petula Clark and Jose Feliciano. Other concerts are named “Eat to the Beat” and these take place during the Food and Wine Festival. We have seen The Beach Boys, Chubby Checker, The Four Tops to name but a few at these concerts.
