Light Lunches in Orlando
Panera Bread
When looking for somewhere for lunch, Panera Bread is perfect for a light lunch. They are a chain so you will find them all over the Orlando area. The ones that I know of are on Highway 192 not too far from the junction with Highway 27, one by the Premium Outlets on Vineland Avenue, one at the Mall at Millenia and one close to the Florida Mall. They are one of the few places where you can sit outside in the sun to eat.
They are basically what they say, a bread shop/bakery. They sell whole loaves of great variety and much nicer than the ones sold in the supermarkets and their range of cakes is superb. For lunch they have a great selection of sandwiches, toasted or plain, salads and home made soups. The soups can be served either in a bowl or in a hollowed out round loaf of bread. They come served with half a baguette of white bread. They will also offer you a cake to follow it for just 99 cents. These cakes are mainly dough based such as Danish pastries and various fruit or nut pastries, but they do have individual carrot cakes too. One of the best soups is broccoli and cheese, it is thick and creamy and seasoned to perfection. The tomato is not as Heinz would make it but made with fresh tomatoes and basil.
They have a wide selection of speciality teas and coffees such as Earl Grey tea, grapefruit tea and peppermint tea among others and coffee both normal or decaffeinated and a hazelnut flavoured coffee which is delicious.
Mimi’s.
Mimi’s is a French restaurant that does all the usual dinners but has a beautiful lunch menu. One of the best items is a selection of Quiches. They are served with a side salad and fruit plus a muffin of your choice. This is one of the heartiest “light lunches” you will ever eat. We are so full that we usually take the muffins away and eat them later for tea! They also have a wide variety of omelettes also served with salad and fries. Again here, you can sit outside and enjoy the sun.
Mall at Millenia and the Florida Mall.
Both of these shopping malls have a food court where you have a wide selection of types of food from Asian, Italian and Mexican through to American and Vegetarian. They also have fruit bars, smoothie bars, speciality ice cream bars and cake stalls.
So you should never go hungry at lunch time!
