Lat 2010 In Downtown Disney and Epcot
I love going to Downtown Disney at anytime of the year but especially in November when the annual Festival of the Masters takes place. This artisan Festival which takes place over a weekend (between 9. 30 and 5. 30pm and admission and parking are free) has been happening for over thirty years. It is an open air Festival all along the streets of Downtown Disney where visitors can go and enjoy the works of over one hundred and fifty artists. These are not just ordinary artists to be able to attend the artist must have won a primary award at a juried contest sometime within the last four years. At this Festival you will see some of the best artwork from all around America.
Throughout the Festival you can see artwork including sculptures, paintings, jewelry, photography and glass accompanied by plenty of music. A must see are the street painters from the Central Florida Chalk Artists Association. These talented artists decorate about 6, 000 square feet of sidewalk.
At the end of November visitors to Orlando can celebrate the holiday season with all of their favorite Disney characters and plenty of fun family events. Really special to me at this time of year is the Epcot Theme Park. Here visitors can take part in Holidays Around the World which goes on until the end of December.
Epcot is transformed into an international celebration of holiday traditions. As you stroll around the park, you will encounter a variety of holiday characters, many of folklore, and including Italy’s La Benfana, England’s Father Christmas, representatives of Kwanza and Hanukah, and of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus.
I never forget the magic of the Lighting of the Christmas Tree ceremony at Epcot with all the carol singers whenever we are at the villa for Christmas this is a must see.
One of the most popular holiday events at Epcot is the nightly Candlelight Processional which is held at the America Gardens Theatre. The story of Christmas is told through narration with a choir and a fifty piece live orchestra. Each evening there is a different celebrity narrator and this year these include Whoopi Goldberg and Isabella Rossellini.
There are Candlelight Processional Dinner Packages that are available but I strongly recommend you reserve one of these well in advance. With these you not only get your meal but also get a guaranteed spot for the Candlelight Processional as well as access to a pre-arranged fireworks viewing area.
If you are ever in Orlando late in the year do try to go to the Festival of the Masters or to Epcot.
