A Most Spectacular Show – La Nouba
The reputation of Cirque Du Soleil is world renown – and up until this summer I had yet to experience it. Having persuaded my husband and two daughters, who are both musical and gymnasts that they would enjoy it, I bought tickets for the evening show at the theatre which is situated in Downtown Disney and looks like a big top.
On arrival we found our seats – daughter Number One was not happy as she was by a wall “and couldn’t see everything”. I tried to explain that she would and it would be in front and above her. She had no idea what to expect! I’ll try to introduce La Nouba without giving too much away to spoil your fun ….
We were warned not to be late as we might become part of the show – so we arrived in good time! This pre-entertainment act leads into the show, as it unfolds, and participates through the one and a half hours of great entertainment.
Then the music starts up – and at this point you don’t know where it’s coming from…. Next some of the cast introduce themselves by walking around the theatre waving at you. We were only one row from them and the make up and costumes are amazing, weird, colourful, strange – even eerie. It all looks very exciting. Then the show starts on the stage – every seat is a good seat as my daughter found out.
Cirque du Soleil follows an abstract story whilst the show unfolds - exciting, yet a mystical and magical show that combines old fashioned street entertainment, miming with music, acrobatics, dance and comedy all in one package. The musicians play especially composed music with a French influence. The two singers, one operatic and strong, the second well trained with beautiful tones complement the acts on stage and harmonise, often hauntingly, with the music.
Each act, based on a circus theme, is carefully and skilfully put together to entertain you. Much is performed at different levels of the stage and in the ‘big top’ for all to see. Whilst this is happening something will be attracting your attention elsewhere on the stage – keeping you fully entertained and amused. And the musicians are positioned in large purposefully constructed pillars at the side of the stage.
As the show begins its conclusion there is well acted comedy and then the finale begins - so clever, building up to a remarkable act. It is performed so smoothly, so professionally, it makes it look so easy! Truly staggering and marvellous to watch!
As the artists take their bows at the end they receive a standing ovation, or more, as they have worked so hard in the show to ensure you have a brilliant time with them.
None of us wanted the show to end – we were totally mesmerised and caught up in this strange world.
They certainly inspired my daughters to continue their gymnastics with a vision to work in Orlando for Cirque du Soleil in a few years. I would love to go again – and soon…and I must admit I bought the CD to remind me of the show!
