Kissimmee Old Town (7)
Kissimmee Old Town is certainly worth a visit, lined with shops and bars there is something here for everyone to enjoy. At the head of the town is a small fun fair that has one of those rides that strap you in a harness, hoist you up to some ridiculous height and then instruct you to pull a lever that sends you plummeting to the ground just for the wires that you are attached to, to take the strain seconds before you hit the floor and arc you away only to send you forwards and backwards in a pendulum movement, it can be seen for miles around. Personally, I can’t understand why anyone would want to speed towards the ground in a virtual freefall, only to lurch upwards when you get to the end of the wires, but there you go, it takes all sorts and if that’s what you like, who am I to decry it.
Behind the fun fair is a bronking bull, that’s worth a good half hour watching, people seem to be thrown off when the bull is going very slow, although if you are the one that’s trying to stay on, it doesn’t seem so gentle. It is usually the youngsters who like to ride this and they have a right good laugh when they fall off, you cant help but laugh with them.
This is also the place to go on Saturday night if you like vintage cars, and it’s free, not something that is usual in Florida, you can see all types of cars, American and British of all ages, surprisingly there are many Minis there of all types, Coopers, Cooper S’s and just plain Minis, there are muscle cars, hot rods, works in progress, in fact all types of car in all types of state from absolutely brilliant jobs to just starting work.
Generally then, Kissimmee is rife with shopping and entertainment venues, but this one is a bit unusual. In this entertainment complex, you can browse through 75 specialty shops, including the Old Town General Store. Or you can dine at one of eight reasonably priced restaurants, including the popular Manuel's. Kids also have fun here. The complex boasts 15 amusement park rides, including a Ferris wheel and bumper cars. Admission is free.
So, on a Saturday night you can wonder down to Kissimmee Old Town, park your car free of charge, wonder around the shops, enjoy a meal, let the kids have some fun on the fun fair and watch the vintage car parade.
A great nights entertainment and all it’s cost you is for your meal and the kid’s rides.
