KIM POSSIBLE WORLD SHOWCASE ADVENTURE, EPCOT
Disney has always been at the forefront of innovation, and a new attraction is about to open at the end of January, 2009, at Epcot. Called ‘Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure, ’ it is not a roller coaster, nor a ride but a high tech interactive experience, based on the Disney channel’s ‘Kim Possible’ animated series. It is a game where players have to try to save the world from the clutches of Montalban Senior and a bunch of villains.
Interactive devices called ‘Kimmunicators, ’ which use state of the art technology , will be found at kiosks in Epcot. These devices are quite small, and look remarkably like a conventional shell type mobile phone. They are hand held, but there the resemblance ends as they don’t work like phones. Video instructions appear on the screens and these tell you where to stand to save the world. The kiosks are disguised as wood cutter’s carts, and it is here you start your adventure.
The aim is to find the Kim Possible characters who will then give players clues which they will need to find the villains and stop them dominating the world. Apparently, ‘top secret’ devices will be hidden in Field Stations in the World Showcase pavilions in Japan, Norway, United Kingdom, Mexico, France, Germany and China, and there will be a unique ‘event’ for the guest ‘agents’ to take part in.
From here, the ‘secret agents’ are sent to one of seven pavilions, and each of these will have its own mission, taking around 45 minutes to an hour. We understand that interesting things will happen to you if you push the correct button at the correct place. Players will be able to explore parts of World Showcase that they have never seen before, and they will find out new things about each of the countries that they visit.
When the mission has been completed, the ‘Kimmunicators’ will be returned by dropping then into decommissioning drops, which will be disguised as such things as woodcutter' s carts.
This attraction is included in the price of admission, and there is no deposit for using the device as they are not real cell phones, and only work within the area of the attraction. It would be possible to do all 7 missions, but you wouldn’t have time for anything else if you did!
This sounds a fascinating new attraction, and we will certainly be trying it out on our next visit. It is good to see Disney introducing more things for the whole family to enjoy together.
