Joes Crab Shack
We had a lovely evening at Joes Crab Shack. A large open restaurant with plenty of seating and booths for privacy as well as tables for large groups. We were greeted with a smile and promptly seated at a table for 4, plenty of space and didn' t feel overcrowded, which is important to us.
Our server arrived and suggested drinks and food. I went for the Hurricane cocktail, WOW, they will only let you order two as they are so strong, boy, it was! Very nice though slowly sipped with a glass of water on the side. Hubby had a beer and we settled down to view the huge menu.
If you love crab and lobster, you will be in heaven. There are so many options to choose from and the menu is quite extensive. There are some good choices of appetizer, ideal to share, but we went straight for the main course. I went for the East Coast Platter, Crab stuffed shrimp, a made from scratch lump meat crab cake and fish and chips. It was served with crispy onion strings and was delicious. The fish was delicate and the crab cake very tasty. My husband chose the Maui Mahi, which came grilled and glazed with mango pico de gallo and was served with seasonal vegetables and pico rice. Again this was very good, the fish was well cooked, moist and complemented by the lovely mango flavors.
We watched other diners tuck into buckets of crab and steampots, both served in quirky tin pots, we then realized what the hole and tin pot in the middle of our table was for, all the crab shell etc. The salads and sandwiches also looked great, as did the childrens menu, there were plenty of families eating and children were well catered for, especially with an outdoor play area with a huge ship to climb on!
For those guests who are not into fish, there was a good but limited choice of steak and chicken, true vegetarians would struggle here, but as the name suggests they predominantly offer crab cooked in many different ways. They also had a gluten free menu which had quite a good selection of safe dishes which could be enjoyed from the main menu.
Desserts were the next on our list, having kept a little space for one, we really could not decide, but ended up agreeing upon a chocolate shack attack, Six gigantic layers of decadent chocolate cake and icing, well my eyes were definitely bigger than my belly, so glad we had opted to share. The check appeared swiftly and was very reasonable especially taking into account the drinks we had. Worth another visit indeed.
