Jockamo
Having driven by this little restaurant many a time, I had always wanted to pop in but alas whilst we were in the area we were always heading off to Dunkin Donuts. Now last month fate shown on me and I got to try it out by accident!
Having arrived at Dunkin Donuts to have a sandwich and some soup in the ToGos sandwich shop within Dunkins we were disappointed to find it closed permanently! Not tempted (this time) by the lovely donuts we decided to try somewhere else for our savoury fix and return later for donuts.
Well we stepped outside and there was my Jockamo right next door just asking to be tried, so we stepped in side the purple façade and were surprised to see it was counter service and you had to order your food at the register. The menu was extensive though and the staff friendly. When the food was ready to be served, (Our order was cooked to order) and it was delivered to us by a friendly young girl, who told me she loved my accent and could I keep talking to her!
I had southern chicken strip basket which consisted of yummy chicken strips with a honey bbq dressing and seasoned fries which were really yummy, they even brought me out mayonnaise when I asked if they had it! My other half had his old favourite the PoBoy. We had visited New Orleans a couple of years ago and the food brought back some great memories. We washed out lunch down with a couple of sodas and the whole think came to about $15, which was outstanding value. No alcohol is served but we received free refills on our sodas.
Jockamos is situated near Wal*Mart on the John Young Parkway and Sand Lake Road and is definitely worth a visit if you are looking for something different to try.
It is decorated in a casual New Orleans way, beads and football memorabilia. We relaxed and caught up with the news in the free newspapers provided listing all the events happening in and around Orlando that week and had a very enjoyable and relaxing time.
It has limited opening hours but is open from around 11 am until about 9 pm but is closed on Sundays. Lots of locals were coming in for lunch and they do take out too.
The dearest thing I could find on the menu was under $10 and that was for a seafood.
