International House of Pancakes
First of all here is a quick bit of background to this well-known and much loved eating establishment. The very first International House of Pancakes opened in 1958 in a suburb of Los Angeles. Within four years there were 50 restaurants, as the American eating public quickly caught on to the idea of a restaurant serving America’s favourite breakfast food – pancakes. Such has been the continued success of the company that they now have over 1,200 outlets and they are now known simply as IHOP.
So, what is it about IHOP that makes it so good? Maybe it is their huge variety of mouth-watering selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Although they are known for their pancakes, they do offer other dishes as well, but let’s start with their fantastic pancakes…..
You can have a basic stack of Original Buttermilk Pancakes, which you can smother to your heart’s content with lashings of different types of syrup. There are other pancake dishes to choose from too e.g. Pigs in Blankets (pork sausages in pancakes), Fruit Pancakes, Harvest Grain and Nut Pancakes or Chocolate Chip Pancakes. There are other breakfast choices available and, of course, they all come with a serving of pancakes. You can have eggs, crispy bacon, ham, pork sausages, hash browns, T-bone steak, chicken and fruit in several combinations or all at the same time. You can have a huge portion, or just the standard large portion, it is up to you!!
In the unlikely event that you do not wish to have pancakes there are other dishes available at IHOP are a large selection of omelettes, delicious French Toast (American Style), Waffles and Crepes all served either on their own or, if you like, with the usual selection of eggs, bacon, ham, sausages etc. If you are looking for a health-conscious alternative, you can ask for your omelette to be made with a reduced cholesterol egg substitute and there is low calorie syrup available for your pancakes.
For lunch and dinner you can still choose to have pancakes, but there are plenty of other things on the menu to tempt you. There are onion rings, mozzarella sticks and chicken strips for appetizers or snacks. For the main course you have a huge choice again. There are shrimps (huge ones), fish and chips, chicken, all sorts of burgers and sandwiches, sirloin steak, T-bone steak, pot roast, soup, sandwiches and salad. Even the fussiest family will find something on this menu to satisfy them. In the unlikely event that you still have room for more, there is ice cream or fruit crepes to follow.
IHOP offers a Seniors (over 55s) menu and a Kids menu with smaller portions and prices, so it is the perfect place for a family meal.
