Ice Skating in Kissimmee
If you fancy a day away from the parks, but are not sure what to do, why not visit the Ice Factory and participate in an Ice skating session.
The Ice Factory is an Olympic-class skating and hockey rink located near the Disney Epcot/Universal Studios theme park complexes. The rink is easily accessed from the 192 in the direction of St Cloud, just turn right down Shady Avenue, take a left at the T junction and the Ice Factory is on your left. There is plenty of free parking and it is staffed by experienced, professional skating instructors and certified coaches, the Ice Factory also features a 750 Seat Stadium and two Ice Surfaces.
The Ice Factory offers daily skating sessions, from just $6 including skate hire on a Tuesday evening. At other times prices are $7 plus $3 for skate hire. Children can skate for $7 and this includes skate hire, those under 3 are free. For young children, under 10 years old, you can hire a skate aid, which is a bit like a “zimmer frame” for the ice.
On a Saturday evening there is a family special where 5 of you can skate for $40 including skate hire, a large Pizza and a pitcher of drinks!
The smaller rink is open 3pm to 5pm, Monday through Thursday and although smaller, still provides a great place to learn to skate.
We skated on a Sunday afternoon and although there was a kids party taking place, the rink was quiet with plenty of space for all. For those who wish to be a spectator, admission is free, there is plenty of seating and it is not too cold to sit and watch, well warmer than our local rink in the UK.
If you are skating, I recommend long trousers, gloves and a few layers with a fleece, it is quite cool on the ice, although there were some skaters in shorts! We were able to skate for the entire session, getting off the ice for a rest and drink from the snack bar.
The rink side bar and lounge offers a range of snacks, hot food, coffee and beers. The bar area is much warmer and great for those who are watching to warm up with a hot coffee and a snack.
If all your family wants to skate, there are lockers rink side to put all your valuables in, so no one has to sit out to watch the bags.
A great afternoon was had by all, it was a good way to rid myself of a few of those extra Florida calories!
