Hyatt Regency Hotel Orlando Airport
If you have a late flight into Orlando Airport or an early morning departure, you might want to consider staying on-site at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Orlando International Airport (MCO).
For those frequent travellers to Orlando, you might recall the glass elevator in the atrium at the airport – this elevator leads you to the reception area, restaurants and floors of the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
We had an early morning flight out to Vegas so decided to treat ourselves to a stay at this luxurious hotel. We had looked online at the budget hotels, located a bus ride away from the airport, but decided for an upmarket night’s stay – with a guaranteed good night’s sleep with soft feather blankets and pillow-top mattresses. Our room was decorated in a restful sage green, lots of puffy pillows, nice crisp sheets, and the usual marble hotel fittings in the bathroom. We overlooked the atrium of the airport and once the early evening rush of UK planes had departed, the airport has a peaceful hush about it. I just love people watching and could spend hours just observing.
The hotel is actually situated inside the airport and access is via a glass elevator to the first floor reception. The rooms face either inside the airport or outside with views of the runway or airport. There is a swimming pool on the 9th floor with an outside terrace. Unfortunately, due to heavy rains when we visited, this was closed but it looked great with umbrellas and padded loungers.
The restaurant on the top floor is well worth a visit and aptly named the Hemisphere Steak & Seafood Restaurant. Slightly expensive but I can honestly say the best food we have had in Florida! Enough of those theme park chips and burgers, wilting salads in the all you can eat restaurants – here you can sample lamb chops cooked in an English way, delicate, slowly and full of flavour. Real perfectly cooked tender vegetables and all superbly presented. Overlooking the runway but late at night with just the lights showing, no noise, and hard to believe but a quiet ambience, this restaurant is definitely one to try.
Also located within the hotel is a really well equipped fitness centre. Complete with Plasma screen TV, towels, water and headphones – state of the art cardio equipment - a great way to burn off those calories before a long flight.
