House Of Blues - Downtown Disney

Having spent a very enjoyable evening wandering around Downtown Disney we came upon the House of Blues and tried to get a dinner reservation. Unfortunately they were extremely busy and we could not be seated. We decided therefore to return one lunch time when we had more time and the hostess assured us they are not usually so busy.

We found out that house of Blues have locations across the United Sates but to us it did not have a ' chain' feel to it. Apparently they have great musicians who play in the restaurant later in the evening and they often have a musician on the front porch. We were told it is great to catch a concert next door because it is supposed to be an amazing venue with incredible sound and artwork covering every square inch of the place.

All the servers were young, fun and very attentive and seemed very well trained. Our server was called Thomas and he came from Philadelphia and was very enthusiastic and friendly. He immediately took our drinks orders and returned with them very quickly. During the meal as soon as my Mothers soft drink was nearly empty he quickly replaced it.

I loved the headings for each section of the menu; starters were listed under Opening Acts! Dad chose Pan Seared Voodoo Shrimp with rosemary cornbread, we had been told that we must try the cornbread, we all did and it was really great.

Mother and I chose our starters from the “Cast iron Kettle Soups” section. We both had Cajun Smoked Turkey and Shrimp File Gumbo which also had white rice, diced tomatoes and lemon. This was delicious; we had opted for a cup rather than a bowl because we had seen the size of the main courses being served at adjacent tables.

Mother noticed there was also a section on the menu of “Whats between the Bread” and from this she chose her main as she was not too hungry. She chose well with the ' Elwood' - blackened chicken sandwich with chili garlic mayonnaise, green chilies and sour cream, served with French fries and it looked and apparently tasted gorgeous.

Dad and I ignored several other sections and chose from the “Headliners” section. He had and thoroughly enjoyed a medium rare Filet Mignon with Crawfish Bordelaise, served with mashed potatoes and sauté vegetables. My meal was not disappointing; our server had recommended this as I did want a large meal. I had Crispy Buffalo Chicken Tender Plate served with French fries and a ranch dipping sauce.

Mother and I initially decided not to have a dessert but having watched various ones being served whilst we finished our drinks we changed our minds! She chose Sinful Triple Layer Chocolate Cake which was served with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream while I had White Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding - with Jack Daniels Whiskey sauce; this really was to die for!

We really enjoyed our lunch but next time we visit here we are going to make reservations for dinner and listen to the music while we dine.
