Handy Hints for Florida – Part 3
When to visit.
If you are not locked into school holidays you have many more options on when to travel. One of the nicest months to travel is May; the weather is beautiful, not too hot and the summer storms have not yet started. It is also a cheaper time to travel in regard to accommodation and air fares. The same can be said for September and the first two weeks of October (Half term in the UK is the last week) and March, as long as Easter is not too early is the same.
The very most expensive and crowded is Easter, followed by the summer holidays, late July and all of August. However the American schools break up in June for three months so June will be busy too. Christmas and New Year are very busy as well and the weather is not so reliable though all the decorations and the Christmas atmosphere more than makes up for that. If you are not bothered about temperatures, January and February should be alright in the day time but could turn chilly at night.
Packing.
When you are packing for your holiday, do remember all the goodies you will no doubt want to buy as they as so much cheaper than in the UK, so leave plenty of room or you will probably end up buying an extra case to bring it all home with you. That is why there are so many luggage shops in Orlando. Your villa should have a washing machine and dryer so you can travel light and wash your clothes while you are there. American washing machines are much quicker than ours and can do a wash in twenty minutes.
Dressing for dinner in the evening is never done in Orlando unless you are going to somewhere very special. The clothes you wear in the daytime are fine for dinner in the evening. You would in fact stand out if you dressed for dinner as you might in Europe, and by dressed I do not mean evening dress as in long frocks and bow ties, but just dressing up in a nice dress and suit is not necessary, so that will save a lot of packing space.
If you take any fruit, seeds or plants with you, be aware that you will now be allowed to take them into America, even just the one apple you took to eat on the plane and forgot about, will be confiscated. They are very hot on this and even have sniffer dogs checking bags for any of these things.
