Golf in Florida part 3
Many of our guests come to Florida just for the golf after all Florida has some of the best courses in the World and you can barely swing your putter in central Florida without hitting at least half a dozen great courses but if you’re a regular and you fancy venturing a little further away from Disney you will find yourself spoilt for choice with some of these amazing courses. Almost all of them are well within an hour of the Disney area and those that aren’t are definitely worth the drive! So pack your clubs in the back of your SUV and get exploring some of the lesser known clubs!
Shingle Creek Golf Club was designed by internationally acclaimed architect David Harman. It is a 7, 213 yard championship golf course and is bordered by a natural backdrop of dense oaks and pines along historic Shingle Creek. Complimentary valet parking, club and shoe rental, practise facility and GPS yardage system make it ideal for an unforgettable golfing experience. Located just half a mile east of Orlando’s convention center on Universal Boulevard, this challenging yet playable course is within a 5 iron’s distance of everything!
Bay Hill Club and Lodge – Tour level play and tour level prominence make Bay Hill a popular destination for serious golfers. The championship 18 hole course has generous fairways and greens swathed in bunkers and mounds. The 6th is the signature hole of the front nine, wrapping half moon style around a lake on the left. The infamous 18th hole features a wide fairway that squeezes shut just before the green. The nine hole charger course provides opportunities for those with less time to spare.
Celebration Golf Club is a little closer to ‘home’ and has a magnificent par 72 championship course designed by World renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Sr and his son Robert Trent Jones Jr. The course is rated four stars in Golf Digest’s “Places to Play” and is also ranked number 12 by Florida Golf News. Amenities include a double sided aquatic driving range and the Windmill tavern for breakfast and lunch.
Champions Gate - The National, again this course is quite local. It was designed by Greg Norman and this resort course features a variety oh holes including three double dog legs and a challenging par 3 14th hole where the tee looks out over wetlands embraced by trees on both sides.
